Last year I began this position hoping to bring freshness and to revitalise our part within Liverpool Archdiocese, at the first Ultreya after accepting the post I read a letter from Pope Francis that he had written to Cursillistas on living life in following our patron St Paul’s example and living life in the fullness of De Colores. He says your service of proclaiming Christ by being his witnesses in your everyday environments, is an embodiment, a concrete renewal of the Baptism that we have received in Him and makes you disciples and missionaries - born of a personal encounter with self, others and with Christ.
Liverpool has had a very busy and productive year and it is wonderful to witness the fruits of Cursillo blossom in people’s lives. The secretariat continues to meet monthly and I would like to personally thank them for all their hard work and support, although they have been helping on secretariat all year Jenny Maguire, Sue Watson and Georgie Burrows were officially nominated to their positions. To all the Cursillistas who help with the ongoing Ultreyas, Days of reflection, The 3 days etc, whether its help with readings, being eucharistic ministers, making tea, the raffle, giving talks and witness talks, washing up, opening the church, all these are essential, thank you and most of all thank you all for your continued Palanca, your prayer support, as this we know is the foundation of all we do.
Jesus himself, acted out the tripod, as he spent time in prayer with the Father, he too knew and studied the Scriptures and with these, he was constantly amongst the people, displaying compassion and love, through the 3 days we know the effectiveness of the three ingredients, prayer, study and action, how do we keep these flourishing in our lives?
Overall we have had a very fruitful year and the forthcoming year is also very full and will keep us busy. A lot of time will be given to planning and preparation, we also are putting together a group to support fundraising which is vital for us to lower the cost of the 3 days and also support those who cannot cover the full cost. This commitment given by the secretariat, team and community is essential for us to keep growing and be ongoing in the Archdiocese, for reaching out and encouraging others to have a personal encounter with Christ, others and self through the Charism of Cursillo.

January, 2015
|
Hope everyone had a truly blessed and peaceful Christmas and a Joyful and fruitful New year. Although the nights are cold and dark and people would rather be in front of the fire, we still had a great turnout and beautiful Ultreya evening. It was held on 27th January which was the birthday of Father Jimmy (Canon James Collins) who passed away a couple of years ago, he gave so much to Cursillo, he was Liverpool’s Spiritual Director and Cursillo had such impact on him he became a great friend of one of the founders Eduardo Bonin. We shared stories and memories bringing lots of laughter. We also welcomed to our community Hector and Maria who have moved to England from Venezuela, they made their Cursillo in Venezuela a number of years ago and we are so pleased they are joining us in Liverpool Archdiocese.

Christmas Ultreya
|
December, 2014
|
Our year would not be complete without the annual Christmas Celebration and Ultreya at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King, Liverpool, this year it was held on Tuesday 16th December. Father Tony celebrated the mass and after communion we all took a candle and lit it as we returned to our seats. The lights were lowered and the candlelight flickered we listen to a solo of silent night echoing throughout the Cathedral, it was beautiful. We were joined as usual by many from Shrewsbury diocese and we were able to catch up and share afterwards with good food and a cup of tea, it was a wonderful evening.
Cursillo 3 Days
|
November, 2014
|
We had a very successful 3 days in November 2014, at St Josephs, Freshfield. The weekend was filled with the Holy Spirit and very fruitful. We were be supported by Bishop Tom Williams as Spiritual Director and joined also by Father Tom Leigh and Father Peter Watson. I would like to thank the 4th day community for their efforts as always we had a really great turnout at the Clausura.
It was a vibrant and a Joy filled closing, the Bishop celebrated Mass. As well as many from the Cursillo community, there were family and friends of those who had just made their Cursillo, we were also joined by Fr. Slingo, Fr Watson and a couple of Sisters from the Missionaries of Charity Sisters, Seel Street. Deacon Pat Collins also joined us and it was great to meet with him, he was a Lay-director many years ago and he brought me some literature and shared memories from his time with Joe Brady, Brian Farley and many others.

Embrace Youth Conference
|
1st November, 2014
|
Today we attended the joyful ‘Embrace' Youth Conference; held in the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. Cursillo was represented with a stall next to the Chemin Neuf Community Stall in the Chapel of Saint George and the English Martyrs. It was great to talk with youth and many others present at the conference.
The day consisted of talks by key note speakers, such as, Sr. Catherine Holum, John Pridmore and Fr Dermott Donnelley. There was also a chance to attend workshops given by a variety of speakers for question and answer sessions. There was praise and worship, adoration and a chance of reconciliation, concluding with Holy Mass celebrated by Archbishop Malcolm. A lovely day for the Youth in the Archdiocese of Liverpool thanks to the hard work of John Griffin. |

Day of Reflection |
6th October, 2014
|
Our latest ‘Day of Reflection’ was held in the parish of St Gregory the Great in Lydiate. After beginning with a bumpy start on where we were to set up, we soon settled in to a very fruitful, prayerful and reflective day. We were joined by parishioners from both St Gregory’s and Our Lady’s Parishes and although due to the weather the numbers were not as great as expected, the imput given was very positive.
The day saw time for a number of talks, discussion, meditation and quiet prayer. As always, the coming together around the table in communion for food and sharing brings a sense of community and friendship.
The parishioners were very welcoming and it was lovely to spend the day with them in their parish.

The New Archbishop
A couple of us from the Cursillo community met our new Archbishop last week on his pastoral visits. As many Cursillistas hopefully have had the opportunity in their parishes also. This is the beginning of a new era in the Archdiocese of Liverpool.
We wish all the best for our New Archbishop in his ministry. |

Deepening Experience |
19-20th September 2014
|
A group of twenty gathered together at St Joseph’s, Freshfields for a 24 hour ‘Deepening Experience’.
This ran from Friday evening, 5pm where we joined for a welcome talk, then shared and caught up with one another over our evening meal.
The evening then followed with a talk entitled ‘The Lost Sheep’ and a reflection time with coupled ‘walks to Emmaus’. After this we met back for a beautiful Holy Hour – consisting of exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, prayer and anointing.
There was free time after this for those who wanted to join for some light bites and social time, which allowed many to deepen friendships.
We began the next day with morning prayer and reflection in the chapel , and after breakfast we gathered for our follow up talk ‘Feed My Sheep’. After a wonderful meditation by Sr. Christina we celebrated Holy Mass.
After lunch many people took the opportunity to walk in the beautiful surrounding woodlands and sandy dunes. The Afternoon session commenced with a talk on ‘Streams of Living Water’ followed by discussion. Next we listened to a talk on ‘The Hidden Treasure’, again followed by time for discussion. We ended the day with a closing talk and farewell and a sing song.
We had a great response and feedback, with many asking to do another early next year. It gave us a chance to renew, grow and deepen our faith together as a community.

Summer garden party
|
9th August, 2014
|
We had a wonderful time at our Cursillo summer garden party fundraiser.
The evening provided a great opportunity to deepen our faith through friendship and great food! We were blessed with beautiful weather and had a great range of people attend, from 5 years old to 80 years old! We raised £160 to help with costs of our up and coming Cursillo 3 days! Thank you for all those who attended and made the party such a success! :) |
